The crisis began when a floodgate failed in East Jakarta following a previously discovered leak. Even though the government claims that the matter will be dealt with within five days from the initial incident, the public remains sceptical, criticising the government heavily for both its slow response and poor infrastructure. Despite the government's growing efficacy with regard to infrastructure improvements, this is yet another example underscoring the long road ahead for Indonesia.
