The European Parliament on May 11 passed a resolution that demonstrates EU's support for the development of ties between the EU and Taiwan. Additionally, the resolution also supported signing of an economic cooperation deal between the EU and Taiwan. The move is expected to enable the EU to classify Taiwan as a priority nation for discussing a free trade agreement. Furthermore, the resolution would also help in the signing of a Trade Enhancement Measures agreement between Taiwan and the EU. This resolution is not legally binding, but it remains a positive development in Taiwan's international relations efforts.
